Why a "resume-friendly" template isn't always ATS-friendly
Many visually polished resume templates use two-column layouts, text boxes, icons, or tables to look good to a human eye. Those same elements are frequently the reason an ATS parser extracts your text out of order, merges unrelated sections together, or drops content entirely. This checker reads your resume the same way most parsers do — as plain extracted text — so you can see what actually survives that process.

- • Structural signals — bullet usage, paragraph length, special-character density, uppercase overuse
- • Wording — action verbs, quantified results, job titles, and employment dates

Because this runs entirely in your browser against extracted text — not the original document layout — it can't perfectly detect every column, table, header, or footer issue. Treat the formatting checks as directional signals, not a guarantee of how any specific employer's ATS will behave.

Is a 'resume' checked differently from a 'CV'?
Not by this tool — both terms refer to the same document in most English-speaking job markets, and the checker analyzes the underlying text the same way regardless of what you call it.
What resume formats are supported?
PDF and DOCX. We recommend PDF for most online applications, since DOCX can sometimes reflow unpredictably depending on the recipient's software.
Will this tell me if my resume template is ATS-safe?
It can flag common risk signals — very little extractable text, missing bullet structure, excessive special characters — which often correlate with templates that use tables, columns, or text boxes an ATS can't parse cleanly.
How often should I re-scan my resume?
Any time you tailor it for a new role — especially if you're pasting in a new job description, since keyword matching is job-specific.
